Blue Forest Petrified Wood – May 20-24
The Northwest Federation of Mineralogical Societies, which is an umbrella organization to which our club belongs, is leading 2 rock hunting trips this summer. If you plan on attending either of them, please let Janel Lacey know (text 541-215-2839) so I can pass our club information on to the NFMS trip Leader, Doug True.
Where: Eden Valley out of Farson, WY
Tools: shovels, picks and other digging tools, rock hammer, gloves. Doug will provide probes, or you can borrow one from Janel Lacey before the trip.
Accommodations: Dry camping on site, or there is BLM campground called Slade Creek on the river (lots of mosquitoes), or hotel in Kemmerer, WY, 40 miles away.
Getting There: Out of Farson, go north on Hwy 189 for 19 miles. Turn right on Hwy 372 and go about 10 miles east to a 4-way junction. Go straight onto a gravel road down over the Green River (single lane bridge). Go east about 5 miles east on Road 8. Watch for a gravel road to the left (yellow standpipes at the north corner). At this point , turn left between the wire flags Doug set out and stay between the flags until you reach the site.
